WORKSHOP: Teaching the EU – New Methods and Perspectives before the EU Elections 2019

A workshop organised by

Niels Dekker, ProDemos, House for Democracy and the Rule of Law (The Hague, Netherlands)

On Thursday the 23th of May 2019 there will be elections for the European Parliament. Around 375.000.000 people are allowed to vote. Among the younger people that can go to the polling station there will be (future) ‘First Time Voters’. ProDemos is the ‘House for Democracy and the Rule of Law’. Our job is to help explain the systems that govern democracy and the rule of law, and to show what citizens themselves can do to exert political influence – at municipal, provincial, national and European level. We developed several methods to teach students about European politics. In this workshop we will show you how you can use these methods to teach about the European Union. By doing some of them ourselves, you will be able to use the methods afterwards. We believe in learning by doing and methods that will activate students.
